Matt Neckers works in a variety of media, including sculpture, photography, painting, and installation. His mobile museum project, The Vermont International Museum of Contemporary Art + Design—a miniature museum housed in a 1950s camper—toured multiple locations in Vermont, including the Kent Museum, Burlington City Arts, and the Fairbanks Museum. He followed this with an interactive museum set inside a 1941 Philco refrigerator, which was exhibited at the Fleming Museum. The Bennington Museum installed his work Ascension on its facade. Matt’s work has been featured by Hyperallergic and Vermont Public Radio. Art New England has called him “one of New England’s most idiosyncratic artists,” while Take Magazine named him an “Artist to Watch.” Seven Days Vermont recognized his solo exhibition at the Vermont Studio Center as one of the best shows of the year.

He has received numerous honors and awards, including two Vermont Arts Council Creation Grants, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. He was recognized as Vermont’s PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator—an honor awarded to one educator per state. Additionally, he earned the title of Juried Teaching Artist from the Vermont Arts Council and received the Distinguished Arts Education Leader Award from the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education (affiliated with the Kennedy Center Alliance for Art Education). He was also awarded a yearlong Learning in Arts and Culture Fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center, along with several other residencies and fellowships.

Matt studied painting at Evergreen State College, earned an M.Ed. from St. Michael’s College, and completed his MFA at Vermont State University. He has taught at multiple institutions, including St. Michael’s College and Green Mountain Tech.
Matt lives in Eden, Vermont, with his family.
